The 15th Galeb Belgrade Trophy – Serbia Open 2016 effectively came to an end on Sunday 30th of October 2016.

The ETU President Sakis Pragalos attended the two-day event that took place at the Sports Hall Pionir in Belgrade, where he had the chance to meet top-level athletes since it is well-know that Taekwondo is the National sport of Serbia. As a result, it is very popular throughout the country and there are many enthusiasts with numerous taekwondo clubs and coaches since Taekwondo is on the top three places on the list of medals by sport in Serbia.

On the occasion of the open tournament, the gold Olympic Medalist London 2012 Milica Mandic gave her presence and showed her support and motivation to  younger athletes of the sport who participated in the event. Consequently, the gold Olympic athlete from Serbia met with the ETU President at the venue.

Milica Mandic is one of the greatest European athletes with outstanding performances of high level taekwondo skills and many distinctions in global Taekwondo. The Serbian athlete won the gold Olympic Medal in London 2012 and four years later in Rio she tried to defend her Olympic title but her way to the podium stopped at the quarterfinals where she faced Bianca Walkden and got defeated after a significant fight. Milica Mandic was unlucky since the big loss though was that Bianca didn’t make it to the final in order to pull her in repechages.

Nevertheless, Milica Mandic is the only gold Olympic Medalist in Taekwondo from Serbia and holds the one out of three gold medals in total of all sports of the country.
