The ETU President Sakis Pragalos, on the occasion of his visit to Serbia regarding the 15th Galeb Belgrade Trophy,met with the Mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali and the Sporting Director of the Serbian Taekwondo Association Dragan Jovic.


The Mayor of the Serbian capital city expressed his supportiveness and remarkable interest to the ETU President concerning the Taekwondo sport and events.


Hence, Mr. Sinisa Mali introduced his proposal for Belgrade to be the hosting city the ETU European Taekwondo Championships for the 2020.


ETU President Sakis Pragalos stated: “Principally, I would like to congratulate all the executives of the Serbian Taekwondo Association for their extraordinary effort in the sport and for the outstanding G-Open events that have been successfully held within the country during the recent years. Furthermore, it is significant that our ETU Championships are established among major sporting events. Definitely, the  interest of a city in hosting our championships four years prior the event is something that endorses success to the European Taekwondo and reliability to the ETU events.”


The city of Belgrade has long and storied history in architecture with many theatres, museums, monuments and opera houses in a deep and fissured cultural life. The capital of Serbia attracts sunbathers with the beaches and rivers and at the same time is magnetism for sports enthusiasts.


The sports facilities in the city are approximately one-thousand and many of which are capable of serving sporting events in all levels. Belgrade’s background regarding hosting major sporting events includes EuroBasket 2005, the 2005 European Volleyball Championship, the 2006 European Water Polo Championship, the European Youth Olympic Festival 2007 and the 2009 Summer Universiade. Also, Euroleague recently announced that Belgrade will host the 2018 Final Four, validating for one more time its sport event organizing supremacy.


Besides the outstanding sport facilities, the city of Belgrade is the most important media hub in the country since it is the home of the headquarters of the national broadcaster Radio Television Serbia (RTS) and many high-circulation daily newspapers are published in the capital city.
