The 8th edition of the WTE European Cadet Championships was magnificently launched in Budapest, Hungary with the completion of the first competition day (05/10) at the Competition Venue BOK.


The Hungarian Taekwondo Federation undertakes a European Taekwondo Championship after a long time and proved to be both effective and efficient since an astonishing Opening Ceremony and first competition day was provided under the greatest conditions.

The capital city of Hungary welcomed a total of 477 athletes from 42 countries around Europe and throughout the first day of action 88 young athletes participated for a place on the winners’ podium. Well along an outstanding Opening Ceremony followed up and was honored by the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Hungary Yim Geun-hyeong and the Deputy Minister of Sports to the State Peter Sarfalvi.


The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Hungary Yim Geun-hyeong during his opening speech stated: “I sincerely welcome all of you to this significant event. It is a great pleasure for me to be present at the WTE European Cadet Championships 2017 held in Budapest, Hungary. Taekwondo is not only a great sport to exercise your body but firstly is a way to explore your spiritual core. Concluding, I would like to express my appreciation to the HTF President Miklos Patakfalvy for realizing this great event.”


The WTE Vice-President and acting President of the event Michael Madar during his speech on behalf of the WTE President Sakis Pragalos, thanked the Hungarian Taekwondo Federation and the President Miklos Patakfalvyfor the effort and contribution to the event. Continuing, Mr. Michael Madar added: “It is gratifying to note that the European Cadet Championships are vital for Taekwondo. These events are dedicated to our new generation athletes, our next Champions and Olympic medalists. Young athletes are rewarded through their participation with experiences in major Taekwondo Championships and thus help them to adjust the sport procedures, the sport environment and overpass the stress of a competition. Let the Championships launch in the best way and welcome more high quality and elevated Taekwondo events about to come.”


Subsequently, the athletes’ oath followed up with the conclusion of the Opening Ceremony by the acting President of the event. Thus, Mr. Michael Madar honored on behalf of WTE President Sakis Pragalos with awards the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Hungary Yim Geun-hyeong, the Deputy Minister of Sports to the State Peter Sarfalvi, the HTF President Miklos Patakfalvy and the Head of the OC of the event Zsolt Marton.


The Taekwondo Family present at the Competition Venue BOK, hold one-minute silence to honor the memory of Dr. Kim Un Yong, former Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and founding President of the World Taekwondo, who passed away on Tuesday 2 October 2017.
