The second edition of the WTF President’s Cup – Europe will be realized in Athens, Greece on 27-30 April 2017 and the attentiveness of the Taekwondo public is beyond the expectation.
Thus, the public will have the chance to watch live the all-time record tournament of participation in G-Ranking events worldwide, on laptops, tablets and smartphones through the official YouTube channel of the South Greek Taekwondo Union (ETANE).
In total, eight (8) video cameras will be placed at the “Ano Liosia Olympic Hall”, where the event will be hosted, for four (4) days from 8 am in the morning until the end of each competition day by the SportslandCompany.
The extraordinary event, which is organized by the European Taekwondo Union (ETU) and supported by the South Greek Taekwondo Union (ETANE), is ready to welcome 2.182 athletes from 51 countries in total including Olympic, World and European Champions.
The media sponsors of the 2nd WTF President’s Cup are Nova - the first digital platform in Greece, the SPORT FM 94,6 radio channel, the sport site SPORT-FM.GR and the GOAL NEWS newspaper.

Mr. Michail Fyzentzidis,President of the International Olympic Academy (IOA) and ETU Secretary General, met Mr AHN Young-jip, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea and invited him to the 1st WTF World Taekwondo Beach Championships, which it will take place in Rhodes, Greece on May 4th to May 7th 2017
In this pioneering event all of the people will have the opportunity to experience the Taekwondo for the first time in an outdoor area, surrounded by the Greek sun, the blue of the sea and the beautiful sky. Undoubtedly, these conditions will help to enhance the perception of the crowd about Taekwondo and grow up the popularity of the sport.
Furthermore, the fact that Korea is the country that bore Taekwondo and the country that on 27-30 June 2017 will host and organize the World Championship, the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Rhodes would not be just an honor for our Union, but also a signal, that will give us even greater importance to our work and will engage us to continue with the same and more intensity and success.
Finally, the WTF President Dr. Chungwon Choue and other eminent personalities who have been invited, will have the opportunity to enjoy and be a part of the 1st WTF World Taekwondo event by the sea !
His excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos met at the Presidential Mansion with the ETU President Sakis Pragalos and the President of the International Olympic Academy (IOA) and ETU Secretary General Michail Fysentzidis.
The headship of ETU informed in detail the President of the Hellenic Republic for all the activities of the European Taekwondo Union, as well as for the status of the sport in Europe.
ETU President Sakis Pragalos and ETU Secretary General Michail Fysentzidis awarded his excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic with the highest honor of the European Taekwondo Union, the Gold Medallion of ETU in recognition of his ethos, his social awareness, and his multifarious work.
In addition, the European Taekwondo Union tabled the subject that the 1st World Taekwondo Beach Championships, organized for the first time internationally in Rhodes Island, Greece (5-6 May 2017) will be hosted under the High Patronage of his excellency.
The President of the Hellenic Republic, during his meeting with the ETU leadership and as a principal supporter of sporting and the sport of Taekwondo, requested for an extensive update by the ETU headship and reassured ETU President Sakis Pragalos and ETU Secretary General Michail Fysentzidis, that henceforth his stand will be in defend and support of the activities of the sport in both national and international level.
The Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation (BTF) hosted for the first time a European Taekwondo Championship and the Taekwondo spectators and athletes had the chance to enjoy and participate in an outstanding 7th edition of the ETU European Under 21 Taekwondo Championships 2017.
The Championships were launched in Sofia, Bulgaria from April 6 and successfully accomplished on April 9, 2017 in Sport Hall “Sofia”.
By the completion of the event the overall ranking results were released. Concerning the team winner overall ranking, Russia National Team climbed on the top place having collected three (3) gold, six (6) silver and eight (8) bronze medals. The young athletes representing Turkey managed to achieve two (2) first places, three (3) silverand five (5) bronze medals.Italian National Team won the third place on the general ranking with six (6) medals in total· two (2) gold, two (2) silver and two (2) bronze.
On the team ranking in female categories, the teams from Italy, Germany and France won the first three places on the podium respectively with four (4) medals for the first two countries and two (2) medals for France in total.
Continuing with the team ranking in male divisions, the representatives from Russia Turkey and Spain lead their countries to the three top places correspondingly. The Russians celebrated eleven (11) medals, the Turkish athletes four (4) and Spain male participants reached the podium three (3) times.
The significance of the relevant Championships in the taekwondo sport is in highly importance since it works like a bond between the juniors and the seniors and provides to the athletes the ability and chance to experiment their potential and gain the necessary experience and knowledge to move further in achieving their goals.

The 7th version of the ETU European Under 21 Taekwondo Championships 2017 was launched in Sofia, Bulgaria after the completion of the first day of the competition (6 April) in Sport Hall “Sofia”. The Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation (BTF) undertakes for the first time a European Taekwondo Championship and proved to be both effective and efficient in the first event, since they provided an outstanding Opening Ceremony followed by the first competition day.
The Opening Ceremony of the four-day event was honoured by the presence of the WTF President Dr. Choue, the ETU President Sakis Pragalos, the ETU Secretary-General Michail Fysentzidis, the BTF President Slavi Binev, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Bulgaria Daniela Dasheva and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria H.E. Shin Boonam.
On the occasion of the opening event, the ETU President had the chance to award honorary prizes to the WTF President, the BTF President, the Minister of Youth and Sports and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria.
ETU President Sakis Pragalos proudly confirmed that the agreement between ETU and BTF for hosting the Under 21 Championship was the right choice, since the Organizing Committee is an example of dedicated work and the OC worked hard to bring taekwondo one step forward.
Continuing he added: ʺIt is a privilege to be honored with the presence of the WTF President Dr. Choue, with whom we have discussed the importance of introducing the Under 21 Taekwondo Championships internationally in the WTF Calendar. The Under 21 Championships signifies the link between the junior and the senior athletes that is why it is the perfect opportunity to test their potentials and move forward to the elite of taekwondo.ʺ
Additionally, during the Opening Ceremony an impressive event was realized, which combined Taekwondo demonstration with a traditional Bulgarian dancing show.
Overall throughout the 1st day of the Under 21 Championships, 122 young athletes participated in four weight divisions in both female and male categories.

Sofia ‘Hall’ is hosting 435 athletes. The Heads of Teams of the forty (40) in total participating National teams also participated in the anti-doping promotional campaign meeting at the Park Hotel Moskva.
In detail, the ETU in collaboration with the WTF and the European Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation, initiated the ‘STAY COOL, STAY CLEAN’ anti-doping program, inspired by the WTF global efforts to prevent doping. The Under 21 Championships was proved to be ideal to expose team delegates as well as athletes to the principles of a fair and clean sport. All who were present at the meeting were informed regarding the mission and scope of the program. It is certain that the anti-doping movement will grow further, and will gain active ambassadors to sustain and develop its activities.

"Bulgaria writes history for hosting for the first time a European Taekwondo Championship. These championships include 41 countries, while 450 athletes will compete for the title of the European Champion. The numbers alone depict the importance of the event, " stated Michael Fysentzidis. During the press conference of the ETU European Taekwondo Under 21 Championships that will be held from 6-9 April in Sofia, Bulgaria. The National teams of Turkey, Russia, Spain, UK, France, Serbia have the largest participations in athletes. The competitions in the Sports Hall "Sofia" will be conducted in three terrain . The President of the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation Slavi Binev said that the aim of the sport is to teach young people not just in this to win awards. "We try to show not only the organizational entities of taekwondo, but also to present the young competitors not only as athletes, but as people. Taekwondo should not be seen only as a sport, but as a culture. I think that the Bulgarian society needs such personalities - strong and noble. This European Championship is a test for us. If we can do well with the organization, we have a stipulation that Bulgaria will be able to the World Championship, which goes with the final of the Grand Prix series. These are the two largest and most elite events of taekwondo. ", he added.

On the occasion of the ETU European Taekwondo Under 21 Championships 2017, the Council Meeting of the European Taekwondo Union conducted its first meeting for 2017 on Wednesday 5th of April, in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Present at the Marilena Hotel where the ETU Council Meeting was held, was the ETU President Sakis Pragalos, the ETU Secretary General Michael Fysentzidis with the ETU Executive Board and Council members.
The opening was made by the ETU President and the correspondence by the ETU Secretary General. During the two-hour meeting a wide range of topics where discussed by the attendants. The agenda of the latest Council meeting of ETU, comprised discussions for the upcoming ETU European Championships 2017 and the ETU Coaches & Trainers Licences Renewal process.
Milestone issue for sustainability and development support was also the partnership renewal with DAEDO. Furthermore, the most significant legal issues that arised in 2016 were scrutinized by the legal committee, which cases will be arbitrarily applied in the future. Moreover, among other topics the ETU Elections (Korea, Muju 23/06/2017) and ETU- DAEDO partnership renewal were also listed and analysed.
Finally, a substantial number of MNA's tabled various proposals, mostly technical in nature. For those that will be applied, further notice will follow for the clubs, athletes and the public to know. The next ETU Council Meeting will take place in Muju, Korea for the ETU Elections.
